Learn ASL at Home is a beginning American Sign Language class for family members and friends of young deaf and hard of hearing children ages 0-3. We will use the ASL at Home curriculum to teach you how to communicate effectively with your child in ASL during 4 daily routines: meal time, bath time, diaper changes, and book sharing.
The class will take place over 2 hours per week, for 5 weeks. It will take place on:
Sundays for 2 hours from 10am-12pm PDT: January 24 to February 21, 2021
Class will be provided via the Zoom videoconferencing platform. Breaks will be provided, of course.
When you purchase a Learn ASL at Home class, you will receive an email with a link to a registration form. If you are buying the class for someone else, you may forward the link to them. There is a limit of 1 registration per purchase, and a maximum of 8 registrations per class, to maximize visual access on Zoom.
The 8 participants of this first inaugural class of Learn ASL at Home will receive a free print copy of the ASL at Home curriculum!
The ASL at Home curriculum book is required to complete the classwork and homework. Individuals who register for the class will also receive a discount code to get their electronic copy of the book for 20% off.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: My child is over 3 years old. Can I still take the class?
A: You may take the class, but just keep in mind that the topics and vocabulary in this class are geared toward younger children. However, we can modify or add to the vocabulary to accommodate the needs of older children.
Q: I already know some ASL. Will this class be a good fit for me?
A: This class is at the beginner level. If you are already conversational in ASL, it will likely be too easy for you. However, your friends or family who are at a more beginner level would likely benefit greatly from learning to communicate with your child!
Q: I am a professional who does not yet know ASL. Can I take this class?
